NZ IQN Theory Exam Preparation Course

IQN theory preparation

What is the NZ IQN Theory Exam?

The IQN (Internationally Qualified Nurse) Theory Exam is a computer-based test required as part of the Nursing Council of New Zealand’s (NCNZ) competence assessment pathway. It evaluates your nursing knowledge against NZ registered nurse or enrolled nurse standards of competence — covering medication safety, clinical knowledge, professional responsibility, and cultural safety, including Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Code of Conduct.

For many internationally qualified nurses, this is the first major hurdle on the road to NZ registration — and it’s easy to underestimate how different the exam format and expectations are from what you studied at home.

NZ Nursing Standards

Content mapped directly to NCNZ competency standards, not a generic international syllabus

NZ Nursing Standards

Every lesson ties back to a specific NCNZ standard, so you always know exactly what's being assessed and why

Code of Conduct

The NCNZ Code of Conduct and the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers' Rights, explained in context

Structured Lessons

Real scenario-based examples show how these codes apply in practice, not just as text to memorise

Cultural Safety

Te Tiriti o Waitangi concepts and NZ cultural safety principles, built into every module.

Cultural Safety

Cultural safety isn't a side topic here — it's woven through case studies and scenarios the way NZ examiners expect to see it applied

Clinical Reasoning

Case-based practice matched to how NZ examiners expect you to think, not just what you know.

Clinical Reasoning

Work through realistic clinical scenarios that build the decision-making skills the exam actually tests

Built on New Zealand Standards,
Not Generic Prep

Every module is written for the New Zealand competence assessment from the start — not adapted from a global curriculum.
